A month ago, Multi Flashindo Kharisma (MFK) – one of the well-known companies specializing in F&B in Indonesia – contacted me and offered me to write for their magazine called Food Service Today. An offer that I accepted as soon as I had the chance to read the magazine myself, even more since MFK has been kind to give me full two-pages of space for Coffee Matters, an article about coffee which is going to be a regular feature on the magazine. There are many reasons why I accept this job, but the first and foremost is the opportunity to expand the readers’ horizons about the coffee industry – and what better way to do it than on a magazine that has 15,000 circulation and is distributed on a national scale.

When I met Paulus Hadi – the Managing Director of MFK – I agreed to his opinion that Indonesia’s growth on media publishing that specialize in food and beverage is still limited, and the good thing about Food Service Today is that it’s one of the magazines that are still going well and increasing its circulation up to now. Food Service Today has a lot of variety about food and beverage – from the state-of-the-art technology on food manufacturing, kitchen appliances, business trend and even culinary, to furniture and café or restaurants – all are reviewed in this magazine – which has reached its third year since its launch.

My first article is already published on this month edition, although the article itself has been published before on my blog – it’s about Indonesian coffee culture, titled Celebrating hundred years of Kopi Tubruk, which is available bilingually. With Food Service Today’s specialized segment readers, who are mostly professionals in F&B, I can only hope that my narration about coffee will add significant numbers of readers. Even more since I am given a lot of freedom by MFK to write anything related to coffee and it will be published every month.

Nothing will change in terms of coverage theme or writing style, they will be just as entertaining as how my posts are on this blog, or for the Coffee Tea and I magazine which was published in Thailand previously. Of course, every article on the Food Service Today magazine will be posted simultaneously on this blog as well.

Kolom kopi di Food Service Today (MFK)

Sebulan yang lalu Multi Flashindo Kharisma (MFK), salah satu perusahaan terkemuka di bidang F&B di Indonesia menghubungi saya dan menawarkan untuk menulis di majalah yang mereka terbitkan Food Service Today. Sebuah tawaran yang langsung saya terima setelah saya mempelajari isinya,  apalagi MFK telah berbaik hati memberikan dua halaman penuh yang diberi judul “Coffee Matters” yang akan menjadi halaman khusus tentang kopi. Banyak alasan mengapa saya menerima tawaran ini, tapi yang paling utama adalah sebuah kesempatan memperluas jangkauan pembaca tentang industri perkopian pada majalah yang beroplah 15 ribu eksemplar dan didistribusikan secara nasional.

Saat bertemu dengan Paulus Hadi, pimpinan di MFK saya membenarkan pendapatnya bahwa Indonesia minim dengan penerbitan media yang punya spesialisasi dibidang Food & Beverage dan bagusnya, Food Service Today adalah salah satu yang terus bertahan dan terus meningkat oplahnya hingga kini.  Isi FST sangatlah variatif dari mulai teknologi terkini dibidang makanan, peralatan dapur, tren bisnis dan kuliner, hingga furniture untuk cafe atau restoran pun tak luput dari pembahasan majalah yang sudah akan mencapai usia tiga tahun ini.

Tulisan perdana saya sudah muncul di edisi bulan ini, walau artikelnya pernah dipublikasikan di blog ini mengenai kultur kopi tubruk di Indonesia : Celebrating hundred years of Kopi Tubruk yang diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Indonesia.

Dengan segmentasi pembaca FST yang sangat khusus terutama kalangan profesional di bidang F&B saya cuma berharap bahwa narasi tentang kopi akan menambah jumlah pembaca yang sangat signifikan. Apalagi saya sudah  diberikan kebebasan  seluas-luasnya oleh MFK untuk menulis apa saja yang berkaitan dengan kopi dan diterbitkan satu kali setiap bulannya.

Tidak akan ada yang berubah dengan tema liputan atau gaya bahasa sebagaimana tulisan saya di blog atau untuk majalah Coffee Tea and I dari Thailand beberapa waktu lalu. Tentunya setiap tulisan saya di majalah FST akan di posting secara simultan pada blog ini.
